Description:
The first jazz musician I ever photographed, Lester Young performing
at The Five Spot Café, in the Bowery, New York City, 1958. Now here
was a quiet soul, someone who let his music speak for him.
Lester was the heart and soul of the Count
Basie Band for a number of years, had a hard life, and died
at 49 years of age - he looked sixty five. But, man, could he swing.
Listen to Stan Getz and you hear Lester.
