Lester Young

Title: Cool Lester - 1958

Description:

The first jazz musician I ever photographed, Lester Young performing at The Five Spot Café, in the Bowery, New York City, 1958. Now here was a quiet soul, someone who let his music speak for him.

Lester was the heart and soul of the Count Basie Band for a number of years, had a hard life, and died at 49 years of age - he looked sixty five. But, man, could he swing. Listen to Stan Getz and you hear Lester.

Prints are 11"x14" or 16"x20"

Each silver gelatin print is handmade and signed by Herb Snitzer.
